Tomato Stains on Plastic Dishes

Sunday August 14, 2005
I love the fact that after a hard day doing whatever it is I manage to do around here, the man in my life (furthermore referred to as "the man") will cook dinner. He's Italian, so spaghetti is one of the dishes he frequently makes. One of the other things he frequently does is use my white plastic spoon to stir the tomato sauce. Now, I'm not proud of this spoon. I got it eons ago in a pack of many similar spoons and it probably cost me a buck. But, hey, it's functional. Now, however, I can't bear to use the thing with this dingy orange stain on it.

So, I went to the Messy Gourmet site (and how fitting the name) and got some advice and I'm going to try out the "bleached by the sun" route tomorrow. This could be a major breakthrough for me, since I've also got a ton of plastic storage containers with similar tomato-based stains. I will post a pic and let you know how it goes. For now, you can see my icky spoon on the right.

But what makes the darn thing all red? Is it tanens, glutens, acid or base content? Call me a child if you like but I just don’t get it in the first place!

So, um, whatever happened with the sun thing?

The only thing that will get those red stains out is cascade plastic booster. It is amazing!!and can be purchased (cheap) at drugstore.com

Will this cascade booster also work on the plastic basket on the inside of a freezer? I recenly moved and when I went to put stuff in the freezer found a complete mess complete with mold. I washed it out with washing up liquid and some baking soda but it didn’t budge. I also used a bit of comet and still nothing. Any suggestions here???
