Poison Prevention Week
Sunday March 19, 2006
National Poison Prevention week starts today and did you know that 30 children under the age of 5 die annually to accidental poisoning? That's a lot less than the hundreds who died each year before this program started 45 years ago, but it's clear that young children are still especially vulnerable. The scary thing is -- most sources of poisoning in children can be found right at home. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the most poisonous household products include:
- Baby oil and mouthwash containing ethanol
- Drain openers and oven cleaners
- Pain relievers like ibuprofen, acetaminophen and aspirin
- Lamp oil and furniture polish
- Adult vitamin supplements that contain iron
