Sydney Tries the Bumbo Seat

Thursday April 20, 2006
Sydney in the Bumbo SeatKimber got hold of a Bumbo Seat (Compare Prices) at a friend's house and let Sydney give it a whirl. Her final thoughts:
"I found one at Target for $39.99 but just couldn't see spending that kind of money for maybe three weeks of use. She'll be sitting up on her own any day now."

Have you tried the Bumbo Seat?

We got a few months’s worth of use out of our Bumbo, and our baby enjoyed it– we thought it was a good, space-efficient way to keep baby nearby while strengthening his muscles for sitting :)

I got a bumbo for my baby a couple of months ago when he was 2 months old, and we still use it every day - especially when we’re working in the kitchen. We plop the bumbo on the table and the baby’s our living, pooping centerpiece. He’s not quite sitting up by himself yet, but he really wants to be a part of the action, so this is a great way to do it. Since our 2.5 year-old can fit into it, I’m assuming we’ll be able to use it for months to come. THe box says it’s for babies 3-14 months. We got it at Target for $35 and it was worth it.

I LOVE my Bumbo and so does my baby. I would really recommend it. My daughter doesn’t quite sit up yet and she is 8 months so you may use it longer than you think. Once you have one you will find alot of uses for it. At the very least, to put her down for a second to go to the bathroom.

I tried a Bumbo,Liked it alot UNTIL my 4 month old son almost got out of it by arching his back (he is tall for his age-95 percentile)However, I didn’t think it was safe to use anymore. At the very least this is still an item that should be used on the ground ONLY. It is a good product just be watchful.
Thanks

My daughter had low muscle tone as an infant and didn’t sit up until she was 10 months old. The Bumbo gave her the opportunity to interact with everyone while sitting up - and it also taught her the “muscle memory” and muscle strengthening she needed in order to sit on her own. Her physiotherapists had never seen the Bumbo before, but now they recommend it to all their patients with children who have physical development delays. It was expensive - but I think it was worth every penny!

I had the Bumbo Seat for my twin boys. They used it until they were 14 months old. It really helped me because they both didn’t really enjoy belly time. But they sure enjoyed their Bumbo Seat. They would interact and sit and jabber to each other. It was great. I gave mine away from to friends when we were done with them, you can buy them online at Bright Ideas Baby if you want to read more about the product, they highlight the benefits and describe the product in detail, that’s why we bought it there. I hear you can get them second hand probably on ebay but you’d have to pay for shipping. I didn’t have to so I liked that because the boxes are huge!
