ConAgra Recalls Peanut Butter

Wednesday February 14, 2007
The FDA is warning consumers not to eat Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter due to possible salmonella contamination. The peanut butter was sold beginning in May 2006 and the first report of illness may have been as early as August 2006. There are reports of more than 300 cases of illness in 39 states since that time.

To find out if your jar of peanut butter is affected, you can look on the lid of the jar for a code that starts with "2111." Discard any jar with this code immediately.

(1) CONCERNED says:

How much is the “full refund” offered by conagra? does it include sales tax and the cost of packaging and mailing the lid? Is conagra counting on few people actually claiming a refund on this product?

(2) babyparenting says:

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is saying to save the lid for the refund and send it to: ConAgra Foods, P.O. Box 57078, Irvine, CA 92619-7078. That was the first report I saw with that information. As of right now, neither ConAgra or WalMart have anything about the recall on their Web sites about refunds (actually, they don’t have anything up about the recalls, even). You can also call ConAgra at 866-344-6970, but I’ve been trying the number all morning without luck… so perhaps that means that quite a few people are looking to get a refund.

I got a jar of Great Value PB at Wal-Mart in Sidney, Ohio on tuesday. It had the 2111 serial number in the lid. Thank goodness i hadn’t opened it when I say this report…..
I called to tell them, but they didn’t seem to care much.

(5) sick in missouri says:

I had made some no-bake cookies with the Wal-Mart brand peanut butter on Thursday of last week, then became sick on Friday…nausia, diarhea, chills, fever..it was tuesday before I was well enough to function….I plan on taking my jar back to walmart

(6) Ashley Q says:

I, too bought peter pan (2111), and made no-bake cookies with it and the very next day I saw the news. No one in my house has been sick yet. We’re all hoping that it stays that way. I have toddlers that ate those cookies! I went to Wal-mart today to replace our peanut butter and the shelves were almost completely wiped clean! The only peanut butter I could find was smuckers, and only 2 jars. If I like their peanut butter I am switching brands. I realize people make mistakes, but if your product goes out to millions of people, then your consumer safety percautions had better be greater than perfect!
