Stop the Biting!

Saturday April 28, 2007
I remember when I was caring for a group of toddlers. Each year when the new kids moved into our room, we wondered... who will be the biter? Biting is common, and for some children, it's definitely the preferred method of handling tough situations when they aren't equipped with good verbal communication skills. Prevention was our first practice, of course. We always made sure there were plenty of duplicate toys to go around and we made huge efforts to help the children learn to "use their words."

If you've got a biter on your hands, make a prevention plan with your child care provider and take parenting expert Michele Borba's advice. Here she shares her four-step plan to handle a child who bites.
