This is not the first recall for Simplicity. First there was the Graco Aspen 3-in-1. Then a child's death after that recall prompted a second recall of the same cribs.

Now comes a recall of the following model numbers: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760 and 8996. These cribs were made in China and were sold between January 1998 and May 2007, so this covers a wide range of cribs, possibly even a crib you've passed on to a friend or have in the attic. I mean -- that's nearly 10 years ago for some of these cribs.

Also, while all the cribs were from Simplicity, some come with the Graco logo.

Simplicity Cribs

  • Aspen 3-in-1
  • Aspen 4-in-1
  • Nursery-in-a-Box
  • Crib-N-Changer Combo
  • Chelsea
  • Pooh 4-in-1

Cribs that Carry a Graco Logo

  • Aspen 3-in-1
  • Ultra 3-in-1
  • Ultra 4-in-1
  • Ultra 5-in-1
  • Whitney
  • Trio

There are multiple problems with these cribs involving two different styles of hardware. The drop side hardware can be unintentionally installed upside-down and yet still allow the crib to operate properly. Later, however, the hardware becomes weakened with this improper use and can fail. The CPSC is investigating incidents that occurred even when the old hardware was installed correctly, however. While the new hardware is not subject to recall, if it was installed incorrectly you should not use the crib and call Simplicity.

Bottom line is: Old hardware is being recalled; new hardware is only recalled if it was installed incorrectly.

All together -- two confirmed deaths of infants, seven entrapments and 55 other incidents with another death under investigation. So, please look at the pictures carefully and determine if you have one of these cribs. If you do, find a safe place for your baby to sleep and contact Simplicity at 888-593-9274 or head to their Web site.

Cheap cheap cheap. Gotta get everything cheap cheap cheap. OMG, there is a product that is 5 cents cheaper, let’s get THAT one. Nevermind it is made in China. Nevermind that you are fueling the Chinese buildup that will ruin this country. Who cares if you stab your neighbors in the back by not buying American? Gotta get it cheap!

When you are a single parent watching every penny, cheap is all you can afford. Don’t judge people. You have no idea until you have lived in their shoes.

I agree with VARIABLEMONKEY. I’m a single mom and cheap is the way to go when needing things for your children. This isn’t the only crib that has ever been recalled, there have been far more expensive cribs made in the USA that have been recalled. But I also need to figure out how to get ahold of SIMPLICITY. There number is disconnected and there is no way to get ahold of them. My son’s crib just broke last night and he could have died of strangulation is I didn’t notice the damage. Can someone please give me a number to get ahold of them! Thanks!
