So, with all the issues surrounding toys and other products made in China, I'm wondering how many of you are going out of your way to buy gifts this season that are made somewhere else. I spent the good part of an afternoon the other day at Target flipping toys over and looking on tags for country of origin and it was slim pickings, folks. Of course, that might have had something to do with where I was -- a big box store. Still, those are just the stores that many parents are wanting to send a message in hopes that the retail giants will either pressure Chinese manufacturers to shape up or they'll start purchasing their good somewhere safer.

Are you going to boycott China-made goods this holiday season? And if you've already started shopping, how's it going? I'm not finding a lot myself, but am going to be reporting back here with what I find for those who are interested.

I’ve already asked family members to not buy anything made in China. Spend the $ on activities with kids or put it in their college fund.

We definitely will be boycotting “made in China” this holiday and will be looking for toys made elsewhere for our one-year-old, perhaps at specialty stores that carry toys from European countries. With another one on the way, we want sturdy, eduational toys…not toys that play automated music and talk like robots. We agree with Chris…a special family outing or membership to the zoo or museum is much more meaningful for everyone.

We started the no toys made in China mantra to friends and family a few weeks back for our daughters birthday this month. Slim pickings is right! We still got a few, but we are doing everything we can to boycott china made toys. Retailers should take note, I know we aren’t the only ones!

We are definitely boycotting made in China toys. My 3 year old now asks if the toy he’s playing with is made in China. Now we are putting our focus on wooden (European/American) toys and art supplies.

We are in the process of phasing out the “Made in China” toys our kids currently have and have found PlayMobil to have a great collection. We are also looking at wood made toys that we can paint ourselves (or with the kids). I have heard there are also lead test wipes out that change color when in contact with lead. We might have to check them ourselves! :)

I also am trying to stay away for Made in China toys. PlayMobil is also high on our list. Also I find a local toy store Jack in the Box, which I found very little Made in China toys. Not only am I boycotting China toys, but supporting local merchants, not big toy store chains!

I have stopped purchasing from China anything I have a choice to buy other product. Definitely no toys made in China will be bought in my family. Also, I’m looking at the Little Tykes brand that is made in America.

with all of the toys coming up on recalls, it is hard not to want to boycott toys from china. the bibs my daycare provider was using were from china and on the recall list. i am trying to avoid toys made in china for my son and other kids. enough is enough.

(9) Mom of 2 boys says:

I made a wish list on Amazon.com with lots of wood toys and only put it on high priority if it was exactly the toy my sons wanted, otherwise it was just for reference. Thank you for the Playmobil and Little Tykes info! I will get more of those!

I haven’t completely banned MIC toys/gifts because I think the realitives will get them anyway. I am going to try to steer them towards books, gift cards (we can buy other times besides toys at Target) and/or bonds, college funds type of items. As for us…we have purchased items from Plan Toys, Imagiplay, Selecta and books. He is only 21 months…so a big item isn’t necessary this year.

Gosh! My husband and I was just having this same discussion about two days ago. I said to him to you have any idea how difficult holiday shopping will be for us this year. We took no chances and toss majority of our kids toys once we found out about the recall. I think the idea of buying only wood toys that are not painted is great one.
