Recalls this Week

I'm hoping that the increase in recalls these days is a good sign. A sign that more is being done at the CPSC. I mean, I hope that after the problems reported previously that now they are getting more help to keep folks (especially the kid folk) safe. I hope it also means that companies are a little more vigilant about reporting complaints and incidents with toys.

This week there are several recalls, but pay special attention to the Boppy Pillow Covers. If you got one from a friend or bought one in the last year, be sure to see if yours is included in the recall. There are two hazards at play here; some pillows pose a choking hazard and some have high lead content.

• Children's Metal Jewelry (several designs over two years with no specific stores listed) for lead paint
• LaFemme NY Necklace and Earring Sets for lead paint
• Metal Jewelry Sold at Michaels Stores for lead paint
• Paint Brushes from Discount School Supply for lead paint -- be aware that many child care providers and centers purchase from this company's catalog so you might check your child's classroom
• Children's Metal Jewelry from Family Dollar Stores for lead paint
• Home Trend Kids 9 Canvas Bin Boy's and Girl's Organizers from Wal-Mart and Ollie's stores after an 8-month-old child died when the shelf tipped over. It poses an entrapment and suffocation hazard.
