Getting Out of the House with a Newborn

Saturday April 19, 2008

Is it even possible? Is it safe? Sure it is! Just take a deep breath, leave the laundry and the cleaning behind and make sure to follow a few easy guidelines to keep your baby comfy and safe while outdoors.

The most important thing to remember right now has to do with sun protection. Even if you're just going out for a short time, make sure your baby's stroller has a cover or stay in the shade.

And what about you seasoned moms? When did you first take your baby outside? And I'm not talking about the amount of time it takes to get from the front door to the car or the mailbox... When did you really go outside for a walk or to the park with your newborn in tow?

When I had my first little girl, I don’t think we left the house (except for doctor visits) until she was more than a month old. I’m not sure if it was because we were worried about her getting sick or if I just didn’t feel capable of caring for her away from home!

With our next, I think we’ll probably get out much sooner since our two year old won’t be happy staying indoors that long! We both feel more comfortable as parents, and I think that will make a big difference.
