Wal-Mart to Remove BPA Plastics

Saturday April 19, 2008
You've probably been hearing more and more about the possible dangers of bisphenol A in the news. Now discount giant Wal-Mart has announced that it will remove all baby bottles, sippy cups and other items containing the chemical by early 2009 here in the United States, and the same items are being removed immediately from stores in Canada.

Heather Corley has a round-up of recent BPA news and if you're looking to start making the switch right now, check out her list of BPA-Free bottles and sippy cups.

Also notable: Playtex is offering free samples of their BPA-free Drop-Ins Original Nurser bottle system.

Still no sound scientific studies out there that ascertain or link polycarbonate bottles to health problems. Neverless, public opinion and hype are powerful forces..
Nevermind all the polycarbonate used in implantable devices with direct blood contact and no adverse affects!
My baby is keeping her bottles. I’ll be sure not to boil my formula in the bottle for 30 minutes (the method that was used to leach out a minute amount of BPA in one recent study). What kind of test is that? Who would boil formula for 10 seconds, nevermind 30 minutes?

Ohhh. It’s scary. Both my kids used Avent bottles. For over a year. I’ve never boiled for 30 mins though!! So, if they’ve been exposed-then what????

BPA bottles article:
I just got off the phone today with a rep from Playtex Canada and health Canada has approved them to still keep the playtex vent-aire bottles and accessories on the shelves, no recall needed due to low BPA ans PP in their bottles. It doesn’t comply with the health issue standards for a recall to take place.

This is great info. to collect because we use these on our little one.
Signed very relieved!
