Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough Recalled

Saturday June 20, 2009
All varieties of refrigerated and frozen Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough have been recalled due to possible E. coli contamination. According to the FDA, "Since March 2009 there have been 66 reports of illness across 28 states." The FDA and CDC are currently involved in investigating this issue and advise anyone who has become ill after eating the dough to contact their health care provider and make sure the illness is reported to state and local health authorities.

The illnesses are assumed to have occurred when individuals consumed the cookie dough raw. There is a warning on the package about eating the dough before baking and Nestle stresses that the products are safe when cooked. However, both Nestle and the FDA are still urging folks not to consume the dough at all -- baked or unbaked -- since handling the dough could contaminate hands, utensils and kitchen surfaces. You can contact your grocer for a refund or contact Nestle at 1-800-559-5025 or visit their Web site if you have other questions about the recall.
