Manual Breastpumps: Less Expensive than Electric and Handy to Have Around

Tuesday December 19, 2006
If you are experiencing engorgement, need to boost your supply temporarily or need to express breastmilk for your baby only occassionally, give one of these manual pumps a try. I really like the Medela pedal pump, since it uses the power of your legs. Your arms are already going to be tired from caring for your new baby, after all. Another good thing about manual pumps is that they are less expensive than electric pumps and that's a factor when you only need one once in a while.

If you never have the need to pump at all, but just need to relieve engorgement now and again, follow these instructions for manually expressing breastmilk from the helpful folks at Breastfeeding.com.
