Night Light
Night Lighting

By Stephanie Brown, About.com

Previously, your home may have been pitch black at night. Now you're going to be stumbling about in the night to check on, feed and change your baby, so you may find it safer and more practical to have a few well-placed night lights. In addition, you're going to feel more disoriented by the abruptness of waking to her cries or due to sleep deprivation, so a little light can be helpful.

If you find the light from a night light distracting or if it keeps you from falling asleep at night, you might try using one of the newer night lights that activates by motion detection. You could also try a bedside "tap light."

Experiment with lighting so that it's bright enough to aid you in changing, feeding and getting around, but not so bright that it wakes your baby.
