The Safest Place for Baby

By , About.com Guide

Sometimes you're going to find yourself needing your hands to do something. There are always those seemingly urgent events- answering the phone, grabbing the pizza and paying the delivery person or moving a basket of laundry.

If you find yourself in one of these situations, remember that the safest place for your baby is either flat on the floor or inside her crib or playpen.

Don't be tempted for even a second to place baby on a couch, chair or on the bed. There's always a first time for rolling over and you don't want it to happen when she's in any of those spots.

It's good to have a designated spot for these times, like a blanket on the floor with a small basket of toys handy.

Be aware, too, that if you have a family pet, your best bet may always be a playpen or crib. Experts advise that even while your pet may be calm and good around your child, babies make unfamiliar noises and movements that could cause your pet to bite out of fear or surprise.
