These bars have a lot of ingredients, but when you serve them to the kids with a big glass of ice cold milk, you'll know why it's worth the time.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick softened butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 12 ounce package chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup jelly or jam

PREPARATION:

Combine flour, crumbs, baking soda and salt.

Beat butter, sugars and peanut butter in a separate bowl until creamy.

Beat in egg.

Gradually combine flour mixture in and beat well.

Fold in chocolate chips.

Press 3/4 of the dough into a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes and remove from oven.

Drop jelly by teaspoonfuls over the dough. Let stand until jelly is warm and spreads easliy, then spread to cover all.

Take remaining 1/4 of dough and drop by teaspoonfuls over the jelly.

Do not spread.
