With so much going on this year -- hurricanes, earthquakes, people in need -- you might want to consider buying gifts that can benefit others at the same time. These companies all give a portion of the proceeds for these items to the American Red Cross.
1. Marriott Bear
Beginning Dec. 16, Marriott International, Inc. is offering a specially created teddy bear. They will give $4 to the American Red Cross for every bear sold. Pair this bear with a gift certificate for a weekend stay for faraway relatives or parents who need a romantic night away from the kids.2. Ty Beanie Baby Bear for Alabama, Mississippi and Lousiana
Ty has created a special Beanie Baby Bear and $2 from each bear sold online (or $1 for those bought via retail stores) will go to benefit the American Red Cross' hurricane relief efforts. These make great stocking stuffers for children ages 3 and up or for any Beanie Baby collector in your family.3. 2006 Creativity Calendar
If you're heading to a Jo Ann store to stock up on holiday craft items, pick up one of their 2006 Creativity Calendars. The calendar only costs about $6, with $3 going to the American Red Cross. Inside, there are home safety tips and a coupon for CPR and first aid training, making it an appropriate gift for new parents, babysitters or anyone who will be caring for a child.4. First Aid Emergency Preparedness Starter Kit from Target
Target has put together an emergency preparedness kit for families. This kit costs around $30 (with $10 of that going to the American Red Cross) and includes the basic supplies a family of four would need in an emergency. This is an item that can help give parents and small children some security in light of all the disasters recently, where kits like these could have helped save lives. If it's out of stock online, check your local Target store. Mine had some available last time I was there. Are you buying gifts with charities in mind? If so, let me know what your favorites are this year. I'd love to help other parents find gifts that help others in need.
