Modeling and Mosaic Goop

By Stephanie Brown, About.com

This modeling goop will harden when allowed to air dry or bake in the sun. It's good for making "mosaics" by spreading a layer of the goop over pots or other containers and pressing beads, macaroni or other objects into it.
Prep Time: :5
Cook Time: :15
Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2 cups salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup cornstarch
Preparation:
Mix 2/3 cup water and salt in a pan.

Stir and cook over medium heat until salt is dissolved. (About 5 minutes.)

Remove mix from heat.

Gradually mix 1/2 cup water with cornstarch in a separate bowl, stirring until smooth.

Add the cornstarch mixture to the salt mixture.

Return to low heat and cook until smooth, constantly stirring.

The goop will thicken quickly. When it is thick, remove from heat and allow to cool.

Objects made from this can be air dried or baked in the sun. To make mosaics, spread or press a layer onto the object and place desired materials into the goop and allow to dry.
