Papier Mache Paste

By Stephanie Brown, About.com

This recipe makes a paste for papier mache that can be stored for up to 3 days. It's ideal for working on projects that require several layers because it allows for plenty of drying time.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup non-rising wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1/4 cup powdered resin glue
  • oil of wintergreen

Preparation:

Mix the flour and resin glue in a pan. (You can purchase resin glue at most hobby shops or online craft outlets.)

When blended, slowly pour in the warm water.

Add the hot water and stir vigorously.

Cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until the paste is smooth, thick and translucent.

Add drops of oil of wintergreen to add a pleasant smell, or use any other oil extract you prefer.

This can be kept for up to three days.
