Gardening with kids can be so much fun and even the smallest hands can get involved in different ways. You can get a carrier or sling and wear your infant while you garden, and toddlers and preschoolers love to play in the dirt and learn to plant seeds and water plants.

Some of the ingredients you'll need for salsa have to be started from seed in the spring, but have no fear -- many nurseries and building stores carry these items ready for planting.

You'll need:

  • Tomatoes
  • Peppers
  • Onions
  • Parsley and Cilantro

You can also purchase this salsa garden kit for about $10.

This is a very basic recipe for salsa that is easily adaptable to everyone's palate. Here are some more salsa recipes to make once your garden has bloomed. Just remember to set some salsa aside before you add jalepenos if your child isn't a fan of spicy foods. You never know though -- my son ate salsa, curries and other spicy foods until he was three years old, and now he refuses to eat anything with much more seasoning than a light sprinkling of salt.
