How old was your child when you started weaning?
Eight months!

A few days
Was weaning decided by you or child-led? Explain...
Child-led.
Is this the first child you've weaned?
No, my second.
The Best and Worst Parts of Bottle Weaning
With both children, it was very easy. My first child took a little longer to get the hang of drinking from a sippy cup. I gave her a cup with water in it to practice so I wouldn't lose too much breast milk to spills. We tried a couple of different kinds of cups to see which ones worked best and didn't leak (sorry, Avent -- very leaky!).
Here's How We Did It
My son was breast-fed and I would send pumped milk in bottles to child care for him. One day when he was about 8 months old, his caregiver told me that he liked cups and I should go ahead and put his milk in sippy cups instead of bottles. (I continued nursing him at home.) That was it -- no more bottles!
Tips and Tricks
- Try different brands and styles of sippy cups to find the one that works best for your child.
- Depending on how old your child is, try different liquids too: water, formula, breast milk, cow's milk, or a combination.
