From the article: Road Trips with Toddlers
Road trips with toddlers can be an absolute blast. But we all know about those moments that are a complete bust, too. So, how do you keep your sanity when your toddler is engaged in a full-blown tantrum in the backseat and you're nowhere near a rest stop? Better yet, how do you manage to keep your toddler occupied so there's no tantrum to begin with? Share your best ideas with other parents about to embark on a road trip with their toddler. Take Another Adult

If you're a single mom, do whatever you can to find another adult with you. Recruit a friend or see if a neighborhood teen / babysitter wants to make the trip with you. Offer a free trip plus spending money and pay for helping out. It will help you have someone to talk to and keep you alert driving and of course it's someone to help you keep your child entertained! Going it alone isn't impossible, but it can get kinda frustrating at times.
