Bumbo Chair

Thursday April 20, 2006

So, I tried the Bumbo chair:

Sydney in the Bumbo

A friend of mine had one and so she pulled it out so that Sydney could sit in it. It's pretty neat. She seemed to like it and at the same time was a little confused at how such a weird object could be holding her body upright. I found one at Target for $39.99 but just couldn't see spending that kind of money for maybe three weeks of use. She'll be sitting up on her own any day now.

So, maybe next time.

Easter was nice. My parents, grandmother and sister all came over to the in-laws so that we could be together for Sydney's first Easter. We had a nice dinner, then I napped since I had plenty of sitters. The food was great, everyone got along and my grandmother seemed to enjoy herself. Being 81 years old, she doesn't really get out much anymore and she seemed to really like the company. Sydney got lots of goodies, clothes and Aunt Sheri got her a bunny card with money in it for her piggy bank.

Sydney at Easter

Hope everyone had a good holiday. We are touring day cares this week so I will let you know what we find out. I just can't get over the prices!

I keep seeing those Bumbo chairs but look uncomfortable to me. Sydney seems to not mind it though. I might have to check it out:-)

We have a Bumbo seat and love it! We have had it for around 7 months and my daughter is a year now and we still use it. Granted she is on the smaller side for a one year old so I am not sure all would fit in it at this age, but it has been wonderful for us. When she was younger I could feed her in it on our kitchen counter since she was still a little small for her high chair. All of my friends have used it when their babies come over and all the babies seem to be comfortable in it and it keeps them in place. We used to travel with it because it gave us a place for our daughter to sit at people’s houses when there wasn’t a highchair. Obviously as they get older they have to be watched when they are in it, but it is a great place to sit them real fast rather than the kitchen floor. I highly recommend it!

I just rethought how long we have had the Bumbo seat and it has probably been longer than 7 months. I think it has been more like 8 or 9 as we wanted it to help her learn to sit up, and strengthen her back. Time flies… I just know it has been worth it’s cost!

I love my Bumbo! My daughter is two years old now and we’re still using it, although not as much. We used it all the time when she was younger and now I use it when I’m doing her hair. It puts her at the right height when I put it on the coffee table (with me right there of course) and she can’t wiggle around in it. Its still comfortable for her, especially now that she’s a little taller and her legs aren’t as chubby. I’m glad I didn’t get rid of it when I thought we were done with it a year ago.

We have a Bumbo seat. My only complaint is that we did not get it earlier. Our baby was almost able to sit on her own when we got it, but it was worth it. She loved it from the first moment because she was not reclined, as in the bouncy seat, and could use both of her hands, unlike when she would push up from a prone position.

Although she can wiggle out of it now–when she really wants to– at 8 months, we still use it often. It is also wonderful when younger cousins or friends come over, it gives them an alternative to their car seats.

Hi Kim – I found the link to your blog (lost it again…) I have been leaving notes here. If you get this note, please email me re: entry. I left something in OD for you because I could not think of a way to reach you. I am not sure if you read the entry, but would like to discuss further your note.

If this doesn’t display my email address (or give you access) leave me a PN and I’ll get it to you, or give me yours.

I got my son a Bumbo when he was 5 months old. We use (still do and he’s 15 months) it everywhere! At restaurants, he sat in it on the table with us, and it was great since he couldn’t sit in a high chair yet. I also used it to place him in front of toys that he couldn’t reach lying down. I highly recommend these seats. They are definitely worth the money, and can be used as long as your child can fit in it.

the bumbo seat looks really neat – is it plastic or molded foam?
she is getting so big – so beautiful! who does she look more like, or is she a decent mix between you two?

First off… great blog and pictures… I had no idea so many parents were blogging… I’m so in 1999!

I’m a huge advocate of the Bumbo Seat… As a mom of twins, we found eating at friends houses near impossible (since none of our friends have 2 high chairs). Once we got the Bumbo Seats we were booking dinner dates and getting out more because our boys enjoyed eating in their Bumbo Baby Sitters and they were so easy to bring with us and clean! We got our Bumbo Seats at http://www.brightideasbaby.com/Scripts/product_bumbo.asp – we bought from Bright Ideas Baby because they provided a lot of information about the Bumbo Seat and they had free shipping options. That link provided answered all our questions… hopefully it will help you too.

We loved the Bumbo Seat so much, both of our Bumbo Seats have been handed down to friends and family now that our boys are too big for them (which made us pretty popular with the parents who received them). The twins fit in the Bumbo Seat until they were about a year old – I just wish they had large sizes.

Hey, I love your Blog! We are even thinking of doing something similar for our little Alex.
I have read your earlier issues with nannies. Have your thought of using an agency? We did and found they take a lot of the stress out of it by conducting the interview/screening/checking prior to our meeting them. The nanny’s are professionals and have a minimum of two years full time experience with YOUR required age group.
The agency we used is http://www.thewrightnanny.com.au there are a lot of others around although this is the one we went with and can recommend.
Goodluck with the the daycare centres or whatever solution you find.
Thanks again for the good read!
