The Drama Continues

Just when I thought things would get back to normal, more drama is dredged up. It seems that once my husband's grandparents found out that we are having a girl, they decided to call and let me know how disappointed they were in the fact that I was killing the line of boys in the family. Once I knew that the call was NOT regarding congratulations, I took it upon myself to inform them that this would probably be their only great-grandchild. Just to stir the waters, of course. That caused nothing short of panic. Widespread. The grandmother's exact words were (gasp) "You DO know that you are letting the family name die, right?" Is it too much to ask that you be happy that we are having a healthy and beautiful child? I guess it is. My husband's response? "Too bad they have to be so stupid." This was after I called him crying to inform him that his family was causing me to head toward the deep end of the hormonal ocean. I can't expect him to jump on the phone and start screaming. Well, I can, but we all know that won't happen. So, I have simply accepted the fact that they are hateful people and that I can control the amount of time we spend with them. Hence, the part of last week's entry where I stated that this is the time to kick people out of your delivery room since it is the only time you can be mean to people and get away with it. My only saving grace? The rest of the family (grandparents, sister, cousins) are NORMAL and WONDERFUL and more than giving. They tend to make up for the negative bunch. Almost, because nothing is EVER going to wipe the image from my mind of them turning away at the mention of not having a boy. And the longer that I think of the conversation I had with her, the more mad I get at the fact that all I have been stressing about since the conception of this child is that she is healthy and happy and well cared for. How dare you imply that she is any less than awesome and wonderful and the most loved child ever created? See, I'm getting worked up again.
