Top 100 Baby Names of 2005
Monday May 15, 2006
The U.S. Social Security Administration has released the top 100 baby names of 2005 and I've updated my files to reflect these rankings. All names have meaning and origin listed and you can vote on how you feel about each name.
The top three this year for both girls and boys didn't change at all. It's still:
New to the list this year:
- Carson at #100 (which was #89 in 2003 but dropped out of the top 100 in 2004)
- Katie at #100 (which hasn't been in the top 100 since 2000)
- Caden at #98 (which has been making a steady climb through the top 1,000 since 1992)
- Mya at #98 (which debuted in the top 1,000 at #994 in 1997. It then climbed the next year to #238 and has been making a steady climb toward the top 100 since)
- Isabelle at #96 (which has been making a steady climb through the top 1,000 since returning in 1991 after a 26 year absence)
- Gracie at #94 (which hasn't been anywhere near the top 100 in a hundred years)
- Mariah at #85 (which hasn't been in the top 100 since 2001, when it was also #85)
- Brayden at #80 (which has been making a steady climb through the top 1,000 since 1991)
- Brooklyn at #78 (which has been making a steady climb through the top 1,000 since 1990)
- Nevaeh at #70 (which is the biggest mover and quite interesting -- it debuted in the top 1,000 in 2001 at #266, didn't make it to the top 100 till this year where it smashed in at #70... and it's Heaven spelled backwards!)
Dropping out of the top 100 were:
- Patrick
- Jake
- Ashton
- Melissa
- Bailey
- Erin
- Leslie
- Sierra
- Danielle
- Amber
And, funny -- Jesus and Mary came in together at #73. Mother's Day reunion of mother and son or Da Vinci Code moment? You be the judge...

If you spell something backwards, doesn’t it mean it’s from Satan? I’m just sayin’…
