Breastfeeding Myths
Saturday December 16, 2006
Think today's formulas are the same as breastmilk? Or maybe you think breastfed babies aren't getting enough iron or vitamin D, or that they need to be given water in the hotter months. All these "facts" are untrue. If you are getting some advice that seems to be hindering your breastfeeding success, check this list and see if you can dispel some myths and get back on track.

I know that breastfeeding is the gold standard for caring for a child. However, as a mother who pumped for 10 months for twins, I detest articles of this nature that only add stress to mothers who have a difficult time breastfeeding. Of course the information may be entirely accurate. It is the nature of the article which is disappointing not helpful.
Hurray for an article that dispells some common breastfeeding myths! And hurray for a mother who pumped 10 months for twins! That is an accomplishment that shows a lot of love and commitment. No one is criticizing how you fed your babies. Solid information and access to experts who can help are what struggling mothers need, not the silence of those who have that information. We all do the best we can with our children, and solid information helps us make decisions and find help when we need it.

Hi,
We are expecting a baby and are naturally concerned about everything related to babies and kids, like environmentally damaging nappies, toxic toys, caretakers, education ecc. We have started a blog posting everything we find useful and hoping it will be a place to discuss solutions to issues that may arise. Help and comments from anyone with kids are very welcome.
