Garlic and Breast Milk: Urban Legend?
I heard you could dry up your milk through the power of cabbage leaves. Psh. Yeah, right.
Actually, it was right. And when I was a surrogate mommy and couldn't bear the pain of engorgement another moment, I called up my La Leche League buddy. She confirmed it and those cabbage leaves saved me. No kidding.
Sometimes though, I hear things and I know I'm not getting the full story. I don't even remember the first time I heard about garlic and boosting your milk supply, but it seems to come up in conversation more often than not when moms are asking how to get more milk flowing. I did some research and found that much like an urban legend, there's only a little bit of truth to it...

When I was breastfeeding and would eat something with a lot garlic in it my baby would completly refuse to nurse! Maybe he didn’t like the smell or taste?
